Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Begin by making your pie crust and let it chill in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
Peel and slice the apples into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Then add the brown sugar, corn starch, 1 tsp. of cinnamon, butter, salt, and mix well.
Next divide the pie crust in half for a top and bottom crust, roll one half of the crust out and place in the cast iron skillet for the bottom pie crust.
Then fill the pie shell in the cast iron skillet with the apple mixture. Roll out the remaining dough and place it on top of the filling mixture.
Bake the pie for 30 minutes or until it just begins to turn golden brown. While the pie bakes mix the topping.
To make the topping combine the brown sugar, flour, butter, Karo syrup, and nuts. After the pie has baked for 30 minutes spread over the top of the hot pie.
Return the pie back to the oven for another 10 minutes.
